2011 Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition Report

May 5 – 8, 2011, the Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition took place in Washington, DC.  Middle school students from all over competed for top honors.  Kansas was represented by Coach Teri Adams, Lakewood Middle School in the Blue Valley School District and team members Shyan Narayanan, Akshay Prabhushankar, Suruchi Ramanujan and Gavin Zhu.

At the end of the Written Competition, Kansas Mathlete Shyam Narayanan placed first.  Shyam went on to finish in the Semi-Finals in the Countdown Round.  The Kansas team finished 8^th among the 56 teams competing.  Kansas also received recognition as the Most Improved Team.  All in all, a good showing for Kansas.  Next year, the Raytheon MATHCOUNTS National Competition returns to Orlando, Florida.
